When I took a taste of the dried figs from my Swanson’s Health Products order, the first thing that came to mind was Fig Newtons.
These chewy little cookies were a staple in my family’s pantry growing up. With the mission of recreating this yummy Nabisco treat, I turned to my trusty friend, Google, to find the perfect fig newton recipe.
I came across these Skinny Figgy Bars and they were just what I was looking for! The only change I made to the recipe was omitting the almonds and agave from the filling, the natural sugar from the figs and dates was perfect amount of sweetness.
Both the filling and crust came together quickly with the help of a food processor. The best part of making these bars was smoothing out the different layers in the pan – I love using my hands when cooking or baking, they’re our best utensil!
The final product was a thick, soft, better-than-the-real-thing, cookie.
Which would you rather have … ?
What packaged cookie would you most like to recreate at home?
Fig Newtons, Sugar Wafers and Frosted Animal Crackers were are my top 3 favorite cookies.

I am definitely going to give these a try!! I’ve made homemade goldfish crackers and next on my list is recreating a pop-tart!
oohhhh! These look amazing! I’m going to have to try these very soon- I’ve got a big bag of organic dried figs I got from Costco a while ago that I need to use up!
ooooh how fun! looks great! i wanna make some homemade oreos
oreos dunked in milk, another childhood favorite!
I would time how long I held them in the milk for optimal soakage ha!
Yum! I would want to recreate Nutter Butters and EL Fudge cookies (the tan colored cookies with the chocolate frosting center).
At first I thought I’d never had an EL Fudge cookie, but I just looked them up and I love those! I don’t think I’ve ever met a Keebler cookie I didn’t like
yum! It’s been ages since I’ve had fig newtons!
I love taking trips down food memory lane
These look awesome! I can’t wait to try them out!
